Spicy food makes you lose weight?
Spicy food. All the spice. Hot sauce on tacos. Red peppers. Siracha. Serranos. Tomatillos. Hatch Chiles. Jalapeños. Habaneros. Bell Peppers. Poblanos. Bananas Peppers. Uh oh. Maybe, probably don’t do Ghost Peppers. I hear they’re deadly. Also, probably don’t eat all of these at once.
Good news. Food with spice actually does speed up your metabolism. But hey! Remember to be careful, because too much of anything isn’t good for you. And sometimes spicy things can give you indigestions and heart burn. So just take it easy, mm-kay.
Spicy, why does it speed up your metabolism?
Because it raises your body temperature, making you sweat, making you burn more calories. It’s like “Hot Box Yoga” in India with curry, but without the yoga, and with eating all the yummy spicy things. I mean seriously, who wants to eat and lose weight! I DO! Hello!
Which spices specifically?
Capsaicin, ginger, black pepper. What actually is capsaicin? It’s the active ingredient in chili peppers. YOW! Cayenne pepper is great too. Even fresh red, yellow, green peppers too. Jalapeños. Yes please.
Lose more weight!
No I’m not kidding. Lose more weight than you were expecting BECAUSE these also help suppress your appetite. WHAT??? No really, the spice actually makes your brain think it’s not hungry any longer. So, go ahead, eat all the chips and salsa before your meal, because it will make you think that you aren’t as hungry (Click to read about peppermint, too, on this blog!). And then, you know, save your dinner for lunch tomorrow. Awesome. Spicy fajitas for lunch! Get your protein, and sweat the calories off because they’re so HOT, and eat less because you’re not as hungry!
